About BPL

A great British asset

Bio Products Laboratory (BPL) manufactures a wide range of plasma products and is part of the National Health Service Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) authority within the UK National Health Service (NHS). BPL, whose manufacturing facility is located at Elstree, near London, UK, is committed to research and development in the 21st century to maintain a key position in a constantly changing market.

BPL has been involved in the processing of human plasma since 1950 when it was first established as part of the Lister Institute by the Medical Research Council (MRC), and started manufacturing specific immunoglobulins in 1972. In 1987, BPL opened its new £60 million manufacturing facility, designed to provide self-sufficiency of plasma products for England and Wales.

We operate as a business with commercial objectives and disciplines and compete in both the UK and over 45 international markets.  We are committed to provide a continuous supply of reliable, high quality plasma-derived products worldwide, supporting both healthcare professionals and patients every day.

With a vibrant 60-year heritage, we invest in research, technology and manufacturing methods to ensure we deliver to a continuously high standard.
