BPL and the NHS

The National Health Service (NHS) has overall responsibility for NHSBT, which consists of  National Blood Service (NBS), Bio Products Laboratory (BPL) and UK Transplant (UKT).

BPL sources plasma from the USA due to concerns over the theoretical risk posed by vCJD associated with UK plasma.

All products supplied by BPL are manufactured using US plasma and follow a stringent Quality Assurance process.
