Therapy Areas - Human Albumin Solution

Albumin 20% Solution

Human Albumin 20% Solution is used for restoration and maintenance of circulating blood volume where volume deficiency has been demonstrated and use of a colloid, such as albumin, is appropriate. It is also used where electrolyte or fluid load requires careful monitoring.

Human Albumin 20% Solution is a clear, yellow to green sterilised, solution. It is a low salt solution ready to be administered as an intravenous infusion only.

Two pasteurisation procedures are used in the manufacture of Human Albumin 20% Solution. Pasteurisation is effective against enveloped viruses such as HIV, HBV and HCV, and has also been shown to be effective against some non-enveloped viruses including Hepatitis A.

Human Albumin 20% Solution should be stored in its carton between 2°C and 25°C and should be protected from light until required for use. Unopened, it has a shelf life of 3 years, but once opened, it should be used immediately, and in any case should be used within 3 hours.
