Albumin 4.5% Solution

Human Albumin 4.5% Solution, is used for restoration and maintenance of circulating blood volume where volume deficiency has been demonstrated and use of a colloid, such as albumin, is appropriate.

Human Albumin 4.5% Solution is a clear, yellow to green, sterilised solution. It is an isotonic solution ready to be administered as an intravenous infusion only.

Two pasteurisation procedures are used in the manufacture of Human Albumin 4.5% Solution. Pasteurisation is effective against enveloped viruses such as HIV, HBV and HCV, and has also been shown to be effective against some non-enveloped viruses including Hepatitis A.

Human Albumin 4.5% Solution should be stored in its carton between 2°C and 25°C and should be protected from light until required for use. Unopened, it has a shelf life of 3 years, but once opened, it should be used immediately, and in any case should be used within 3 hours.
