Normal Immunoglobulins - Further Information
BPL has two presentations of Normal Immunoglubulins. The liquid form is for immediate intravenous administration. It is a sterile liquid which varies from colourless to pale amber or green and is supplied as 2.5g, 5g, and 10g doses.
BPL's Normal Immunoglubulin is derived from US plasma. This plasma is screened and tested for antibodies to HCV and HIV, including HBsAg, followed by minipool testing by NAT/PCR for HIV, HBV, HCV, HAV and Parvovirus B19. Specific solvent/detergent virus inactivation during manufacture is aimed at inactivation of lipid enveloped viruses such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV. For the liquid form, further virus reduction occurs during a subsequent CM-Sepharose step and during terminal incubation at low pH.
BPL's Normal Immunoglubulin is indicated for replacement therapy in patients with primary immunodeficiency syndromes, including congenital agammaglobulinaemia, hypogammaglobulinaemia and common variable and severe combined immunodeficiencies; for secondary hypogammaglobulinaemia in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia or multiple myeloma with recurrent infections, and in children with congenital AIDS who have repeated bacterial infections. It is also indicated for the treatment of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), where it can produce a rapid rise in platelet count, Kawasaki disease, Guillain-Barré Syndrome and allogeneic bone marrow transplant.
The liquid presentaion should be stored in the dark in its carton between 2°C and 8°C. A short period of up to 3 months at 25°C is possible within the 24 months shelf-life.
